hey old friend
Funny, Feel-good & Female driven
Welcome to Hey Old Friend, where we're flipping the script on Canadian film/TV, one female-driven story at a time. Think of us as the cinematic equivalent of that friend who brings wine to your worst days, makes you laugh until you cry, and always has the best stories.
Here, we believe in the power of laughter, the strength in femininity, and the undeniable fact that every woman has a story worth telling. From dramedies that get you right in the feels to straight up comedies that will have you buckling over, we're creating a space where women are the heroes of their own stories.
So, if you're tired of the same old narratives and looking for something refreshingly real, hilariously heartfelt, and unapologetically honest, you've come to the right place.

Hey old friend,
Thanks for being here! I’m Katelyn McCulloch and I’m the CEO/Founder of Hey Old Friend. Ever since I was a kid, I loved to rally friends, start businesses, and entertain crowds. I was a clown for birthday parties I wasn’t invited to, picked flowers from the neighbours’ yards just to sell them back as bouquets and even had the audacity to perform a (very off-key) acapella version of “I’m the King of New York” at my school talent show – dressed in full “Newsie” attire.
For as long as I can remember I have been marching to the beat of my own drum, trying to make people laugh and ultimately, trying to find ways to express my bonkers imagination and creativity.
But as life happens, we grow up and that curiosity is replaced with stress about work and money. We lose our intuition, prioritize what we think other people want us to do and so often, lose ourselves along the way. At least, I did. My people pleasing combined with the pressure of “hustle-culture” led me down paths that weren’t meant for me. It’s been a journey to get myself back on track and rediscover that weird little kid, that “inner knowing”, that old friend inside myself.
Hey Old Friend is more than just a production company and brand, it’s a way back to my most brave and authentic voice. My hope is that anyone who engages with Hey Old Friend - by watching our shows, taking our virtual workshops, or rocking a ‘frig.’ hat - feels invited to do the same.
I’m so happy you’re here and I really hope that together we can embrace the kid inside all of us. And proudly sing off key in a pauper cap.
